Fountains FAQ
How do I choose the right fountain for my pond?
The first step is to determine your primary goal: aeration, aesthetics, or both?
- For aeration (or both), opt for an Aerating Fountain. These provide higher flow rates, which are ideal for circulating water and improving oxygen levels.
- For aesthetics, you'll have many design options, and the choice is mainly up to your preferences. Just make sure your pond meets the minimum depth requirements, and the spray display fits your pond size. Check individual product pages for dimensions.
Note: Fountains and Surface Aerators typically only aerate to a depth of about 6 feet.
How do I choose the right horsepower for my fountain?
Horsepower determines the size of the spray pattern. Ensure your pond meets the minimum depth for the horsepower you choose, and that the spray doesn’t splash onto the sides.
- For ponds 1/4 acre or larger, you can choose any of our fountains.
- The horsepower selection mainly depends on how big you want the display and your budget.
Do I need professional installation for my fountain?
If you don’t already have a power source by the pond, we recommend consulting a licensed electrician. Once the power source is set up, fountain installation is simple.
- The fountain floats in the pond, is anchored with nylon rope and cinder blocks, and plugs into the power source via a submersible cord. Many customers install their own fountains to save on costs.
Should I choose 110-120V or 210-240V for my fountain?
Choose 210-240V if the power source is more than 70 feet from your main breaker. This ensures consistent, powerful operation.
- If you choose 110-120V for longer distances, the fountain may run intermittently or not display at full size.
Are lights included with my fountain?
Lights are optional and can be purchased at the same time or later. They easily snap onto the fountain and are a great way to enhance your display.
Why is the power cord so expensive?
The cost of the cord reflects the high-quality materials used, including copper or stainless steel wire (from 14-gauge to 4-gauge, depending on the fountain size and cord length).
Can my fountain stay in the water during winter?
Some select fountains are designed to operate year-round. You can either leave them running continuously or shut them off during winter. Once the water thaws, simply turn it back on. Please check specific product or call for assistance

The main benefits of Aeration are your fish stay healthy, eliminates excessive algae, improves pond water quality, helps with the overall destratification of your pond, reduces mosquito activity, removes foul pond smells, reduces bottom sediment, and more!
What are the main factors when buying an aerator?
The four key components when buying an aerator are pond depth, pond size, and pond shape. Once you know what aerator to buy you must determine your power source and storage of the pump. This may seem overwhelming but we offer free consultation on this and have categories on our website to help with this!
How much does it cost to run the aerator in electricity per day?
Aerators cost an average of $0.50 per day and that consumption is if you ran them 24/7.
Should the compressor be installed on a pedestal? How high?
No that is not necessary unless the area near your pond is prone to flash flooding. A pedestal is not necessary but you will definitely want to find some type of enclosure to protect it from the elements.
How far can a pump be from the aerator?
In general, You can run up to 1000' feet with no problem. It has plenty of PSI to make the run. You probably will want to consider buying a larger diameter tubing. We usually would recommend 1/2" Weighted tubing for a 500+ foot run.
Do pumps become hot while running?
Yes they do run hot and they are hot to the touch, I would not recommend touching one that has been running for awhile.
How long is the electrical cord for aerator pumps?
Only about 3 foot long. If you need to go further we recommend running more airline as opposed to using an extension cord
Is the compressor waterproof and can it be placed outdoors exposed to the elements?
No, it is not waterproof. We recommend our deluxe unit if you do not have an enclosure for the compressor.
